Yeah, sounds like the ltmodem module is causing problems. I guess
you can work around this by commenting out the call to tcdrain() (that's
there mostly for cleanliness; you should be able to get away without it).
I guess the moral here is that when you buy a laptop, you should
make sure you're not getting a WinModem, or some other piece of hardware
that really, really wants Windows and gets cranky under other OSes :-/
