Sorry for the sparse information the first time.  Coldsync never
terminates, and there is no error/warning (it has to be killed).  I
use Debian Linux, PalmIIIe and ttyS0, *and the ltmodem.o* binary
driver for a lucent winmodem.  It turns out the problem is present
when ltmodem.o is.  Strange behaviour, but I'm shure the module is to
blame.  I hate this binary module, but it is really handy to have a
modem in your laptop.
