Is this a USB-serial-encapsulation device along the lines of usio?  (i.e 
would it allow one to connect to pppd on the FreeBSD box using USB?)

Looking through the archives, you seem to have also been having trouble with 
PalmOS4 devices on FreeBSD.  I'm finishing up my patches to netsync.c and 
will (when/if they work) post them if there is interest.
