I know you know this, but it needs to be said. A correct program that 
compiles correctly but
does something different than before even though nothing was changed is the 
worst enemy to an application programmer.

We think we are writing a COBOL compiler. Instead we are laying the pavement 
for convergence. This is not a fork in the road, this is where the forks come 
back together. Our task is different from previous compiler constructors.

I think you would agree that a silent bug is the worst kind. 

Fear not, the dust will settle. We just don't know yet how wide the pavement 
must be.
