(Replied personally, but just for everyone's information:)
Log in with
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.coldsync.org:/var/lib/cvs login
and password "anonymous". Then check out the source with
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.coldsync.org:/var/lib/cvs co coldsync
