RE: [coldsync-hackers] newbie question(s)
Concerning your solutions for remote Palm sync with Linux/Unix using ColdSync, I am very interested.
I have a need to extract the contents of a single PDB from the palm (a consolidation of 17 PDBs in use by our Palm app), and then
erase all of its records on the palm.
Right now, using a VC++ conduit [Win2K] extracts this data, and places it into a CSV file, then launches another app to further
consume this data. I would much rather extract the data, and place it into the database [postgreSQL] with the conduit, as there is
need to pull data from the server database and place it into a few PDBs residing on the Palm. Do any of your solutions fit in here?
Also, the conduits for ColdSync are required to be in Perl, no? I love Perl, but have never coded Perl DBI. Alternatively, I am
considering connecting the conduit to our main server side app (Java) via Sockets. But, this is only because we have been
considering writing a palm app to sync our data via dialup connection to ISP and then creating a socket connection to (again) our
main server side app. It is my hope that ColdSync will be robust and stable enough to allow us to avoid spending that extra time.
Thank you.
