Can you try to compile your kernel without visor support? I suspect
the kernel is taking over libusb.
Also, what version of libusb are you using?
Anyone else with a *BSD system can do some test?

P.S:
Under linux the hotplug subsystem tries to take over.. you can either
build the kernel without the visor driver or
echo "" /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug ;)
