Ok.  I'll have a look; I'm primarly interested in a Python
solution, although I'm perfectly happy with C.   I'm sure the
Perl code would be very useful... if I knew Perl.  ;)

Yes, I see this thread mentions a patch by Alex Tronin and appears
to be "standard" unix stuff to make a forking deamon; did Alex release
copyright on this patch (or license it under the Artistic or compatible
license?).  

I also saw some metion of C++ , I think that writing wrappers
for C code is much easier than C++ so I hope that coldsync 
would remain mostly "C" code; but this is just a preference.
For example, PyRex only supports "C".

This looks neat.  I'd be interested except for the PhP
part -- I'm quite invested in the Webware group, and they
are planning/building an open source groupware as well
in the Python language.
