Just thought I'd check to see if anyone has made progress with the Coldsync
commands for Linux
I've been watching the list and haven't seen anything
Here's what I have:
Adding the following line to /etc/inittab works perfectly for a local serial
connection on my RedHat 7.2 and 7.3 systems - I haven't tried a USB
connection
P0:2345:respawn:/usr/local/bin/coldsync -s -t serial -dsync:3 -dmisc:1 -l
/var/log/coldsync -md ttyS1
Running netcat for the server of a network sync worked with the following
line but prevented me from doing local syncs while it was running
/usr/sbin/nc -l | /usr/local/bin/coldsync -s -t net -dsync:3 -dmisc:1 -l
/var/log/coldsync.nc -md -
Running the following line for the server of a network sync worked but I
have to restart it after every sync (only runs once)
/usr/local/bin/coldsync -p . -s -t net -dsync:3 -dmisc:1 -l
/var/log/coldsync.net -md - &
For the network syncs, I've only used the Windows based hotsync programs
(from Palm and from Handspring) - also worked with the client machine
syncing to the pda via infrared
I understand that the pi-csd program from the pilot-link package can act as
a Linux based client for a network hotsync but I haven't tried it
I also haven't been able to get the infrared sync to work under Linux yet -
but should be possible
Could anyone who can add instructions to this please respond to this email
with those instructions
We are looking at distributing some Coldsync conduits but would like to add
to the Coldsync installation and usage instructions to minimize user setup
questions (most will be Linux based)
