I would say we should emulate the behaviour of the Windows desktop.
However I am not entirely sure how this does deal with categories. I
seem to understand that the choice of "desktop overwrites Palm" versus
"Palm overwrites desktop" specifically applies to the entire AppInfo
block. For us this would mean that coldsync would just need to copy the
entire AppInfo block as raw data, however we need an option whether it
should come from the Palm or from the desktop.
Clearly this can be controlled through two conduits (one for either
direction; alternatively by a single parametrized conduit), where
the choice of direction whould be done by using the correct one in
~/.coldsyncrc according to type/creator.
However, virtually every database has an AppInfo block. It would be much
more efficient to have this raw data copy process in the coldsync binary
rather than calling the same conduit over and over again. If it's only
raw data copying there is no need to go for all the sophisticated tricks
that conduits/std-categories implements.
Has anybody more infor about how the Windows dekstop deals with AppInfo?
