As far as I can tell, the Linux versions (ymmv) use a module called uvisor
which was designed for the Handspring line of devices and abstracts the
communications protocol. (Corrections welcome.) The FreeBSD version does
not have the benefit of such a module (I'm not sure loading a visor module
into the kernel seems like a good thing anyway), and thus coldsync on FreeBSD
hammers raw protocol on the line.
In any case, it's not an issue with FreeBSD's USB implementation, because
I've gotten my T415 and (now) 615 to sync quite happily on 4.5-RELEASE and
4.4-STABLE. The patches have not yet been cleaned up (as far as I can tell,
there are three FreeBSD users on the list, and the Linux crowd, for obvious
reasons, is less than interested in the patch), but I could try to get them
to you if you want. Keep in mind that they're quite alpha. :-)
