I've never had that issue with my 320. Works fine first time, every time.

Are you loading everything in as modules, or compiled into the kernel
itself?

Also, be sure you have CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_GENERIC selected, otherwise
you may come across inconsistancies (read that somewhere).
