First step; is your system hearing the USB connection occur? Look in
your log file /var/log/messages and post entries related to USB
activity.
Second step; is coldsync listening to the USB? Turn up logging in
coldsync -and- be sure to run coldsync in foreground/console mode to
observe it's behavior.
That is how to begin troubleshooting this kind of problem.
