Before Andrew gives you an official response why this doesn't work
I tell you how I solved the problem.

Of course I've also failed syncing m50x with freebsd directly :-(
However, I've found that NetBSD guys made uvisor usb driver and then
they made ucom (tty emulation) driver work on top of that uvisor thingie.
So I thought I can use it in the same manner the linux' ttyUSB driver is
used.

I've also found a japan page http://homepage2.nifty.com/tkuro/unusables.html
where some guy ported uvisor and ucom to FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT.
However after a bit of tweaking I managed to run it on 4.4-RELEASE.
Now instead direct syncing I do netsync via ppp which talks to ucom0 device.
