AFAICS the Sort Block is meant to be a temporary storage for sort
algorithms on the PDA (since we have memory constraints, this is
basically the 'tmp' variable for them). The sort order is stored
by the application in

   a) Meta-Databases holding meta data for data bases in a fixed
      format

   b) Preferences, if global to application

So the Sort Block has no meaning outside the PDA, AFAICS.

Hope this defeats the mystery about it ;-)
