[coldsync-hackers] Snapshot: Happier Linux
I've just uploaded yet another snapshot:
coldsync-2.0.2-20010330.tar.gz . This one fixes the problem that
syncing a Palm-brand PDA (not a Visor) hardly worked at all.
(If you're curious, the problem turned out to be that I hadn't
read the CMP spec (not even my own comments about it) correctly:
during the speed negotiation phase, ColdSync gets a chance to send
back a packet with a flag saying, "I want to change the speed." I
thought this meant "I want to change the speed to something other than
what the Palm suggested." It turns out it meant "I want to change the
speed to something other than 9600 bps." D'oh!)
Next, I made a startling discovery: /dev/ttyUSB0 works a _lot_
better if you enable the USB->serial in the kernel configuration.
I haven't fixed the problems with syncing Visors, but I've at
least reproduced the "ACK timeout" problems y'all have been telling me
about. I don't know whether I'll be able to fix this, though.
One thing: since I turned on debugging, 'dmesg' is full of USB
debugging messages. However, the 'dmesg' buffer is far too small to
hold all of them. Does anyone (Greg?) know whether it's possible to
redirect the USB debugging messages to a file? That way, I'd be able
to correlate its contents with ColdSync's debugging messages, and
maybe try to figure out what's going on.
