[coldsync-hackers] For great stability
I've thrown up a new snapshot, version 2.0.2. This version has
much better error-detection: if the Palm goes away in the middle of the
sync, or if you tap the "Cancel" button, ColdSync will notice and abort
the sync.
It's been a while since there was a stable release of ColdSync, so
I'd like to put one together sometime soon. So what problems are people
seeing?
- Mysterious failure to sync under Linux. I think this only
affects Visors (can anyone confirm/deny?), and it might be
possible to work around this by explicitly specifying a speed
(can anyone confirm/deny?).
- Mysterious failure to sync under FreeBSD as a non-root user.
AFAIK this has only manifested itself with Visor Platinums.
James Widman has a workaround, but it's rather ugly (it
shouldn't be necessary to muck with usbd).
Are there any other major problems?
Oh, and just in passing, has anyone attempted a Japanese
translation of the ColdSync messages (or any other "big" language)? I
think it ought to work, but I only speak "small" (one byte per letter)
languages, so I can't really judge.
