[coldsync-hackers] Another snapshot
I've just uploaded another ColdSync snapshot:
http://www.ooblick.com/software/coldsync/coldsync-1.3.0-20000811.tar.gz
Mainly, the Perl SPC.pm module, which allows communication with
the Palm during a sync, has been fleshed out more. There's still no
documentation :-( but as an example, I've uploaded
http://www.ooblick.com/software/coldsync/spc-test-conduit
a sync conduit for memo/DATA that downloads the Memo app's current AppInfo
block, creates a category "Foo", and uploads it back to the Palm.
In this context, I'd like people's help:
I'm planning on fleshing this conduit out into a more generic
conduit that synchronizes the categories on the Palm and on the
desktop. I've pretty much worked out how it should work, except for one
case:
Let's say the Palm has categories "Unfiled", "P1", "P2"..."P15",
and the desktop has categories "Unfiled", "D1", "D2"..."D15". There is
only room in the AppInfo block for 16 categories (including "Unfiled"). In
this (pathological) case, some categories will have to be deleted. Which
ones?
I realize that this is a bad situation, but what's the least bad
way of dealing with it?
